How to remove the gear lever?

Sometimes car owners are faced with the problem of removing the gear lever. The stretch is removed to replace the silent blocks on it or to completely disassemble the front suspension. Since these repair procedures are not very difficult, you can remove the lever yourself, and not go to the service station for help.

Advice: it is advisable to carry out the work in the presence of a viewing hole or a lift.

To remove the gearshift lever on the VAZ 2110, follow these instructions:

1. Remove the engine splash shield.
2. Disconnect the ball joint from the lever or remove it altogether.
3. We hold the stretch with a wrench on "24" and unscrew the nut of the stretch with a wrench of the same size.
4. Next, knock out the bolt and take it out.
5. Using two keys on "19", unscrew the nut from the bolt with which the lever is attached to the body.
6. We remove the lever from the bracket, after knocking out the bolt.
7. The next step is to remove the washer from the brace, as well as the lever.
8. Behind the large washer on the guy line there are three washers for adjusting the caster angle.
9. To unscrew the stretch from the front suspension cross member, use a pair of keys on "24", unscrew the nut, remove the washer and remove the stretch from the silent block.
10. Shims can also be installed on the front of the brace.
11. To replace the lever silentblock, you need to press it out in a vice with pipe segments. Before installing a new silent block, you need to moisten it with soapy water so that it is easier to press it back into the lever.
12. The silent block is knocked off the stretch with a chisel.
13. The second is dismantled in the same way.
14. We press the new silent block into the pieces and, by striking the punch, press it to the end (punch diameter 8 mm). We put a drift in the windows in layers of rubber (there are 3 of them).
15. The assembly is carried out in a similar reverse order. Tighten all connections only when the vehicle is on its wheels.

Removing the gear lever handle:

1. For the convenience of performing this procedure, you must first follow the instructions for removing the shift lever described above.
2. With the lever removed, clamp it in a vise.
3. We wrap the neck under the handle with tape and set the open-end wrench to "32" on the tape.
4. Lightly hit it with a hammer from below in order to knock out the handle with the holder from the lever.
5. When the handle comes out slightly, remove the tape and remove the handle, after pressing the latches on the holder with a thin screwdriver.
   Advice: Be careful, as there is a spring under the handle, do not lose it.
6. Install in the reverse order.

However, you can remove the handle without removing the gearshift lever, following these instructions:

1. Disconnect the exhaust pipe mounts and move the exhaust system to the side, so it will not interfere.
2. Further, from the lower end of the lever, we disconnect the gearbox control drive rod and move the rod to the side.
3. In the VAZik salon, unfasten the fastener of the lever cover and remove the cover along with the lower holder.
4. In the next step, we lift the plastic lining of the tunnel, thereby removing it through the top of the gear shift knob.
5. A soundproof cover is hidden under the plastic lining, which can be removed by unscrewing four nuts.
6. Everything is ready, to remove the handle, press on it and pull the handle from below through the opening in the body.

If you carry out these works following these instructions, then you will not spend a lot of time and effort on the entire repair.
