In September 2015, the German brand Audi officially unveiled the updated A4 sedan, although in fairness it should be noted that the first leaks of photos and specifications occurred long before the official premiere.
With the release of the new generation of the sedan, which received the B9 index, the management intends to give a worthy response to the recently updated competitors in the person of the Mercedes C-class and BMW 3-series and to take away from them a significant market share in the class of "small" premium sedans.
By the way, the previous generation was first introduced 8 years ago and during this time has undergone only one minor facelift. In the conditions of the modern market and the rapid development of design ideas, you understand that the deadline is simply huge, even for such an outstanding car as A4. That is why the current generation change looks more than predictable and expected.
As part of the debut for the model motor show in Frankfurt, two body options were demonstrated - a classic sedan and a station wagon. The cars were transformed not only on the outside, but also received significant improvements on the inside, not to mention the fact that the new product became much lighter and received a number of technical improvements aimed at ensuring higher environmental friendliness and economy of the car.

When you first get acquainted with the updated Audi A4, you involuntarily realize that German designers and engineers have done a really great job, paying the maximum amount of attention to absolutely all aspects of the sedan. The machine is built on the second generation of the MLB platform, which affected its dimensions:
- Length - 4726 mm. (12 mm more than its predecessor);
- Width - 1842 mm. (an increase of 16 mm.);
- Height - 1427 mm.;
- Wheelbase increased to 2820 mm. (+12 mm.).
Despite the increase in dimensions, the car has become almost 120 kg. lighter than its predecessor, which was achieved through the installation of new seats, a number of improvements in the transmission, brakes and wiring.
The appearance of the novelty looks quite predictable. The car retained the general style of its predecessor, while receiving the exterior, made in the corporate style of the latest Audi models. A4 received a large number of sharp edges, got a new stroke of head optics and an updated hexagonal grille.
Separately, it should be noted that the running lights are stylistically made in the form of a lightning bolt, which makes the car look aggressive. In the basic version, the optics are equipped with bi-xenon, however, for an additional fee, they can be replaced with matrix or LED optics.
The sedan's profile is distinguished by its restraint and conciseness - there are no frills, everything is simple and clear. The stern of the new Audi A4 has acquired a different LED optics, and depending on the modification, it can be equipped with several types of exhaust pipes: single, twin and two separate pipes located at different edges.
The manufacturer notes that the updated "four" received the most aerodynamic body of all ever produced versions of the model. Thus, the drag coefficient is 0.23 for the sedan version and 0.26 for the station wagon. This had a positive effect not only on the dynamic performance, but also on the economy of the car.
In general, the appearance of the new A4 shows notes of its older brothers, which, however, does not prevent it from being charismatic and recognizable in its own way.

The interior of the car ideally combines modern developments and the classic, corporate identity of the automaker. At the same time, Audi notes that the car's interior has received a large number of changes.
The first thing that catches your eye is a significantly rethought front panel, at the head of which is the large screen of the multimedia and entertainment unit, which proudly rises above the center console, and is not built into it. This solution looks stylish and unusual.
As standard, the dashboard is equipped with classic dials, which can be replaced at an additional cost by a large 12.3-inch digital panel, similar to that in the latest version of the TT-shki.
In the cabin of the Quartet, traditionally for the premium segment models, exclusively high-quality finishing materials are used: soft plastic, natural wood and aluminum, as well as high-quality leather. The fit of the details, as well as the color options for the interior, are at their best.
The Audi A4 has received completely new seats, which have lost 9 kg of weight and received a more anatomical shape. Moreover, they got excellent lateral support that securely fixes the driver's body even when cornering at high speed, a large number of electrical adjustments, as well as a heating and ventilation system (optional).
Thanks to the increased dimensions of the space in the cabin, it has become more not only for the driver and front row passenger, but also for the rear passengers, who additionally received 23 mm. in the knee area. The back row seats are able to accommodate three riders, while the three of them will be comfortable only if one of the passengers is a child.
The trunk of the updated A4 is one of the most spacious in the class. Its volume is 505 liters, which, if necessary, can be increased to 1510 liters by folding the backrests of the rear seats. It is noteworthy that already in the basic equipment, the car is equipped with an automatic system for opening / closing the luggage compartment lid.

The line of engines of the fourth generation A4 is represented by 7 engines, three of which are gasoline, and the rest are diesel. Gasoline engines are represented by one 1.4-liter 150-horsepower and two 2-liter power units with 190 and 252 hp. Fuel consumption of gasoline engines varies between 4.8-5 liters per 100 km. paths. Acceleration from 0 to 100 takes 8.9 seconds for the least powerful modification, and 7.5 and 5.8 seconds for the 190 and 252 strength versions, respectively. We also note that the top-end gasoline engine is equipped with a new S tronic transmission, as well as a proprietary Quattro system that transmits torque to all 4 wheels in a 40:60 ratio.
The line of diesel units is represented by the following motors:
- Two 2-liter engines with a capacity of 150 and 190 hp;
- Two 3-liter engines delivering 218 and 272 hp.
The most powerful diesel engine boasts truly sporty acceleration dynamics - just 5.3 seconds from 0 to 100 km / h. The fuel consumption of the diesel versions is impressive and amounts to 3.7-4 l / 100 km. The maximum speed is electronically limited to 250 km / h.
In addition to a wide selection of engines, the Audi A4 also impresses with a large selection of transmissions, including a 6-level "mechanics", as well as a 7 and 8-band Tiptronic automatic.
The designers did not ignore the structure of the suspension, which was significantly redesigned - the system of two wishbones was replaced by a new 5-link configuration, and a similar scheme was used both front and rear. Thanks to this solution, the designers managed to achieve the optimal level of balance between rigidity and comfort. If desired, the buyer can retrofit the car with adjustable shock absorbers, which will reduce the vehicle's ground clearance by 1 cm in the standard version and by 2.3 cm in the sports version.

The manufacturer emphasizes that in comparison with the previous version, the new A4 received a stiffer body, which makes the car less prone to deformation in a collision.
Options and prices of the new Audi A4 2016
On the Russian market, the updated Audi A4 will be offered in two trim levels: Design and Sport line. The minimum price for a car will start at $ 27.9 thousand or 1.87 million rubles. For this money, the buyer will receive:

- interior trim and steering wheel with high quality leather.
Optionally, cars can be equipped with matrix headlights, a digital dashboard, an advanced multimedia system from Bang & Olufsen, a keyless engine start system, an electric sunroof and other "chips".
The new Audi A4 is once again pushing competitors to the limit, setting completely new standards for quality and equipment, and it does so already in the basic equipment. Constructors and designers of Audi did a great job, presenting to the general public a perfectly balanced, stylish and technically equipped car.
