New Mercedes-Benz GLE crossovers are being recalled in Russia. The reason is in the seat belts, a non-standard way to solve the problem.

Recently, the Mercedes-Benz company in Russia has been pursued by a chain of reviews of different models. Not so long ago, new Mercedes-Benz S-Class cars were recalled due to reasons in the engine, as well as the G-Class due to wiring problems. Now, new GLE crossovers released between 2018 and 2020 are under review. The reason for the recall was the seat belt buckles in the rear seats.

A constructive defect was discovered on the W167 crossovers in the fall of last year, but only now gained a massive character due to many complaints from the owners. According to reports from complaints, the reason for the failure of the central locking under the seat of the Mercedes-Benz GLE. Accordingly, it cannot be fully used, and the reliability of the operation is called into question.

Initially, it was planned to simply replace the fastening of the lock with a more rigid one, thereby preventing the failure of the lock. But, as time has shown, the reason was the double locks, in particular, intended for the right and center passengers of the Mercedes-Benz GLE. If you do not hold the lock or press on it with force, then it easily falls under the pillow.

Removing the lock without folding the seats will be difficult and almost impossible. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the investigation and methods of solving the problem have been delayed, since changing the fasteners cannot be dispensed with. In order to avoid trouble and somehow fix the problem, the mechanics received a non-standard instruction for the Mercedes-Benz company at the service center. To begin with, it is worth removing the lock from under the seat cushion, if it fails, then raise the lock above the base of the cushion and put it in a pair with the adjacent lock so that there is access to the base.

Pull the two bases of the locks with a clamp (plastic cable tie) and cut off the protruding excess with pliers. In the end, make sure that there are no sharp ends that could damage the upholstery of the Mercedes-Benz GLE seats or scratch the passengers and return the locks to their original position. Pulling the tie down should prevent the lock from falling under the seat cushion. On the territory of Russia, 7003 Mercedes-Benz GLE crossovers fell under the recall, the list of VIN codes has already been posted on the Rosstandart website.
