When it is necessary to replace the camshaft drive belt, how to remove it, as well as removing and replacing the tension roller on a VAZ 2110 car, when to replace the camshaft drive belt, how to remove it, as well as removing and replacing the tension roller on a VAZ 2110 car.

When do you need to replace the camshaft drive belt?

This procedure must be carried out without fail if you find:

  1. Clear signs of wear on the inner surface of the drive belt: tears of fabric or rubber, or their separation from each other, cracks and other defects - folds.
  2. The outer side of the camshaft drive belt also succumbed to operational defects in the form of cracks or bulges inward or outward.
  3. Oil stains or other unwanted weather defects appear on the belt (vehicle operation in severe weather conditions).
  4. The end (side) part of the belt has obvious visual defects - cuts, separation of rubber from fabric, etc.

The whole procedure was carried out in a VAZ 2110 car. The presence of an assistant is obligatory.

C - mark on the cover of the oil pump;
D - mark on the roller crankshaft pulley. The distance between the holes is 17 mm.

Removing and replacing the camshaft drive belt:

1. The first step when working with a car is to remove the negative terminal from the battery.

2. Set the piston of the first cylinder to the TDC position and then dismantle the belt, which activates the generator (read "replacing the alternator drive belt").

3. In order for the tension of the camshaft drive belt to loosen, it is necessary to slightly unscrew its tightening nut and turn the tension roller.

4. It can now be easily removed from the idler pulley and the water pump and camshaft pulleys.

5. Now, to unscrew the bolt securing the alternator pulley, you will need the help of another person. Remove the plug in the clutch housing and using a long screwdriver or other handy tool, the assistant should hold the crankshaft from rotating by the teeth of the flywheel ring, while you unscrew the bolt.

6. To remove the alternator drive pulley from the crankshaft - unscrew the bolt securing the pulley of this shaft and remove it with a washer.

7. Pull the belt off the crankshaft toothed pulley.

8. Replace the worn-out belt with a new one, only before installing it, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the tension roller and toothed pulleys from old grease and other formed dirt and deposits. I advise you to use white spirit thinner when cleaning these parts.

9. Install a new camshaft drive belt in the reverse order of removal, just pay attention to the location of the alternator drive pulley - its hole (No. 1 in the photo) must match the opening of the coupling sleeve (No. 2).

10. When installing the drive belt, it is very important to pay attention to its tension of the driving branch, it should not sag. At the end of the installation, adjust the tension of the camshaft drive belt. If a belt noise is heard while the engine is running, then there is a high probability that it is time to replace the idler pulley. Does it have a bearing? it usually fails.

Removing and replacing the tension roller:

1. To remove the tensioner roller, before installing the drive belt, unscrew its central nut, remove the tension washer, and then the roller itself.

2. First, inspect the spacer ring that stands under the roller - if there are no defects (wear or other distortion), then proceed to inspect the bearing (roller).

3. Rotate the bearing several times to find out the axial play (there will be difficulties when rotating - seizing), and also note whether or not grease is leaking from the bearing. If these symptoms are present, replace the idler roller assembly.

4. When reinstalling an old or new tensioner roller, pay attention to the two holes for a special key - they should go out.
