It is better to replace it in warm weather or in a warm room, since the work has to be done with rubber parts, and as you know, in the cold, rubber becomes tough, and it will be difficult to replace. For replacement, it is best to drive into the inspection pit. Next, disconnect the battery to avoid a short circuit. Often, the inspection starts from the front left side, since it is easiest to change, and it most often fails. If the mount is cut off, then it can be repaired, since the engine mountings cost about 2,000 rubles for a simple foreign car, for an SUV about 4,000 rubles. If there is a breakdown in the rubber part of the support, then you definitely need to install new ones. At a service station, such a replacement costs about 300? 500 rubles for the front and side, and about 700 rubles for the back cushion.

Engine mount replacement process

We remove the protection from the engine to make it easier to reach the necessary parts. First of all, you need to fix the engine with a jack, on the inspection pit it is easy to do this by substituting a crossbar from a large board so that it can withstand part of the engine's weight. This is done so that when you unscrew the support, the engine will sag and there will be nothing to hold on to.

Raising the engine as much as possible so that it is convenient to unscrew the mounting bolts, remove the mount. In the reverse order, we put a new pillow, tighten the bolts well and go to the rear pillow, it is with it that dancing with a tambourine begins, since it has the greatest load in the direction of the car's movement. As a result, not only the fastener itself bends, which in its shape is not the same as the previous ones, but also the fastening bolts are deformed.

It will no longer be possible to lift the engine, it is better to tie it up to the beam or put a crossbar on the glasses and tie the engine to it, having previously raised it with a jack. In some vehicles, you will have to remove pants or other parts that might interfere with replacement. If the fastening bolt is strongly deformed, then you will have to cut it off with a grinder, otherwise do not unscrew it, some drivers level the bolt, but this is not for long, after a while you will have to align it again or change it to a new one.

In order to remove the pillow from the seat, lubricate with oil or WD-40, often due to dirt, the pillow can simply rust to the frame. An important point is the installation, there is a guide on the rear cushion, or in another way an arrow, which indicates the direction of the car's movement, should not be confused, since after a while it can break off again. Collecting everything in the reverse order, go to the right engine mount. There is also a problem with deformed bolts on this support, but the main problem is the generator or air conditioning compressor. As we remember, it is not recommended to remove the air conditioner compressor, since as a result of depressurization all the freon will be released, and refueling will cost even more than the pillows along with the replacement.

If you decide to change the engine mountings at the service station, do not be too lazy to check the operation of the air conditioner or whether there is pressure in it after repair, since unscrupulous workers, in order to save time, can simply remove the compressor and hide it from you.


In most foreign cars, the right airbag is closer to the right front part, therefore, the right headlight and radiator grill are often removed, thus simplifying the replacement procedure.

Having freed up space for removing the pillow, we are faced with the problem of deformation of the bolts, the grinder cannot be cut off in any way, since it is possible to damage the neighboring parts or simply cannot reach the bolts. I would advise you to take a hacksaw for metal and slowly cut off the bolt, although the procedure is long, but still, do not damage the neighboring parts. After removing the pillow, put a new one in the reverse order, be careful with the radiator, as you can cut your hands on its honeycomb.
