Do people buy cars in Russia during the coronavirus pandemic? Car sales statistics in major cities of Russia, have buyers' plans changed, what to expect after the end of the pandemic.

With the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in Russia, even the most seasoned experts could not predict how new car sales statistics would unfold further. Some assumed that the demand for new cars would fall altogether, since this would be a different in-line need. Others said that, on the contrary, demand may increase, as many will switch to personal cars and stop using public transport.

The experts from Avito Auto took up the survey, and they also derived statistics on what the demand for cars in Russia (car purchase) has become during the pandemic. As it turned out, more than 50% of the surveyed respondents did not abandon their plans to buy a car. At the same time, they will buy exactly the car that was planned before the pandemic. The indicator of 53% of those who do not refuse to buy was both in large cities with a million people in Russia, and in small ones with a population of about 250 thousand people.

Today, the chain of buying a car in Russia is complicated by the fact that due to security measures, many organizations and structures are simply closed. Most likely, the revitalization of the movement for the registration of documents will begin to the extent that the restrictions are lifted. At the same time, a decree appeared that local authorities, at their discretion, can strengthen or weaken quarantine measures. According to the available statistics, the majority of those wishing to buy cars of the brand Toyota, approximately 15%. Next on the list are auto brands Kia - 8% and for a snack car brands Nissan – 6,5%.

Nevertheless, there are also those respondents who changed their minds, approximately 8% of those surveyed. Their decision has changed and most likely they will buy a cheaper car than originally intended, but they will make the purchase on time. Another 13% of the surveyed respondents decided to buy a cheaper car, while postponing the purchase until a better time. Not without those buyers who changed their desire and instead of a car will buy another vehicle (for the most part, these are motorcycles - 45%).

Most likely, these are only approximate statistics, many dealerships have met the buyers halfway, helping in the paperwork for the car or making good discounts on top-end configurations. It is possible that such a sales scheme may remain even after the end of quarantine due to the coronavirus, since financial and economic difficulties will not be resolved in a few weeks. In addition, the growth of the dollar against the ruble and instability in the economy will also make their own amendments to the statistics of buying cars in Russia.
