Over the past 15 years, Skoda has consolidated its status as a manufacturer of the most practical and conservative cars, while offering one of the best price / quality ratios on the market. But in the past few years, the company's management has gone through design experiments, trying not only to refresh the design, but also to change the perception of the brand in the eyes of potential buyers. This is clearly seen in the Kodiaq crossover, the latest generation of the Skoda Octavia and the Skoda Vision E Concept electric crossover, which officially debuted in April 2017 in Shanghai.

Skoda Vision E Concept is not only a carrier of a completely new and more stylish design, but also a more high-tech content that does not involve the use of traditional internal combustion engines. This is a vehicle destined to be the starting point in the coming era of the brand's emergence as one of the leading manufacturers of electric cars in the world.

Exterior Skoda Vision E Concept 2017

Even before the official debut of the Skoda Vision E Concept, it was assumed that the novelty would be a harbinger of the future coupe-like crossover Kodiaq Coupe, but, as it turned out, this assumption turned out to be fundamentally wrong. According to the data available to date, the Skoda Vision E is the prototype of a completely new model (tentatively named Aratan or Airon), which should go into series production by 2020.

The concept features a striking, unusual and extremely stylish exterior design. The front part of the body attracts the eye with two strips of parallel LED headlights made using matrix technology, as well as the complete absence of a false radiator grille, which is usual for modern cars. The coupe-like silhouette is highlighted by a low roofline, massive wheel arches, which are home to huge 21-inch wheels with a unique pattern of alloy wheels, stylish stampings running along the body, and the absence of door handles.

A huge panoramic roof deserves special attention, smoothly flowing into the rear window of the luggage compartment and side doors that open in different directions.

The spectacular stern received stylish LED side lights and a massive rear bumper with an integrated LED strip of additional side lights and a sports diffuser. Since the Vision E is a 100% electric car, there are no exhaust pipes at all.

The external dimensions of the novelty are only slightly inferior to the Skoda Kodiaq and have the following parameters:

  • Length - 4.645 m;
  • Width - 1.917 m;
  • Height - 1.55 m;
  • Wheelbase length equals 2.85 m.

There are no official data on the height of the ground clearance, but the visual clearance is 160-170 mm. Unveiled in Shanghai, the Vision E Concept has been given a stylish olive livery to enhance the sleek lines of the body.

Interior Vision E Concept 2017

The interior design of the concept has nothing to do with the interiors of the current production models of Skoda. In front of the driver is a multifunction steering wheel cut from above and below, as well as a fully digital instrument panel. In the central part of the dashboard, the manufacturer placed a large 12-inch touchscreen display responsible for multimedia capabilities, basic car settings and navigation.

An unusual solution was the installation of an additional touch screen in front of the front passenger, a touch-sensitive touchpad in the center armrest and touch-sensitive power window control units on each of the doors. Moreover, special induction pads are installed in the door pockets for wireless charging of smartphones and other gadgets. In the design of the front panel, soft plastics, genuine leather and decorative elements made of natural crystal are used.

The car's interior is designed for four riders (including the driver) and is represented by four free-standing seats, each of which is capable of turning 20 degrees towards the doors, thereby making it easier for passengers to board and disembark.

The seats have a bucket profile and are distinguished by the presence of a large number of electrical adjustments and well-felt lateral support. The manufacturer notes that a person of any height and build can comfortably sit in them. In addition, the company's management promises 7% more free space for rear passengers, compared to the latest generation of Skoda Octavia.

Unfortunately, the manufacturer did not disclose information about the volume of the trunk, but it is not difficult to assume that it will traditionally be one of the most spacious in the class. Also, do not doubt that there will be a place in it not only for a small repair kit, but also for a stowaway.

Specifications Skoda Vision E Concept 2017

Just some 5 years ago, the management of the Czech brand assured us that their potential customers do not need not only electric cars, but also hybrids. However, the tendencies and realities of the modern market forced the "Shkodovites" to reconsider their attitude to alternative power plants, as a result, the Skoda Vision E Concept is driven by two modern electric motors installed on the rear and front axles, respectively.

It is known that the total power of the electric motors is 306 "mares" (a 204-horsepower motor is located on the rear axle and a 102-horsepower motor on the front axle). According to preliminary data, the maximum speed of the concept will be 180 km / h, and the maximum power reserve is 500 km, which allows the Vision E to compete with the ruling points of the Tesla Model X and Model S electric cars. necessary to accelerate from 0 to 100, but it is known that the concept will be equipped with all-wheel drive and an advanced automatic transmission with a dual-clutch system.

The conceptual Skoda Vision E is based on the innovative "Volkswagen" platform MEB (Modulare Elektrifizierungs Baukasten), developed specifically for electric cars and assuming the presence of a modular lithium-ion battery located under the floor of the passenger compartment. The battery can be recharged either from the mains or by recuperating energy during braking.

The steering is represented by an electric booster, which can change its characteristics depending on the manner and driving speed of each individual driver. Responsible for braking are ventilated disc brakes, presumably located on both the front and rear axles.

The manufacturer intends to launch the Skoda Vision E Concept into the series by 2020, while initially the model is planned to be equipped with power units familiar from Skoda Kodiaq, which will be replaced after a while by a hybrid and all-electric engine. However, despite the hype surrounding the Vision E-concept, the first fully electric Skoda will be the flagship Superb sedan, which is slated to debut in 2019.

Safety Skoda Vision E Concept 2017

Currently, the Skoda Vision E Concept can rightfully be considered the most high-tech Skoda of all the previously presented models of the company, and this is facilitated not only by the technical filling, but also by a huge number of electronic assistants and autonomous control systems. So, the model will receive:

  • Highly effective anti-lock braking system;
  • Emergency braking and anti-slip system;
  • All-round visibility camera;
  • Front and rear parking sensors;
  • Automatic steering system within the lane;
  • An autonomous system that allows the car to move independently in the city flea market, overtake on the highway and find / leave a parking space;
  • System to prevent rolling off the slope;
  • Adaptive cruise control;
  • Tire pressure, lighting and rain sensors;
  • Front airbags, as well as curtain airbags for the driver and passengers;
  • Three-point belts with automatic pretensioners;
  • Adaptive LED headlight optics, made using matrix technology and able to turn off individual sections so as not to blind the drivers of oncoming cars;
  • Tracking system for the driver's condition (including heart rate) and blind spots;
  • The function of recognizing road signs, maintaining the lane of movement and emergency braking, when recognizing the threat of a head-on collision.

All this suggests that the model is capable of becoming one of the safest cars in the class, making it a proper competitor to the elite of the automotive world.

Options and price of the Skoda Vision E Concept 2017

Since the monitored car is still at the concept stage, the manufacturer does not disclose detailed information about its possible configurations, since it may change more than once before the start of mass production. Nevertheless, it is known that the car will definitely receive:

  • Matrix adaptive LED head optics;
  • Rear parking LED lights;
  • Light-alloy wheels R21 with an exclusive design;
  • 5 digital displays in the cabin;

The exact price of the Skoda Vision E Concept is unknown, but the manufacturer promises that it will not exceed 50 thousand euros or 3.37 million rubles. at the current rate.

Conclusion

The Skoda Vision E Concept is an extremely stylish and innovative car that heralds a new era in the development of the Czech brand, which, as shown by the actions of the management, intends to radically change the perception of the brand in the eyes of the world community.
