In the spring of 2012, Renault unveiled the Zoe compact electric hatchback for the first time. In 2018 alone, 37.8 thousand copies of the model were sold in Europe, and the total number of Renault Zoe sold exceeded 150 thousand.It is easy to predict what hopes the manufacturer places on the novelty, and, admittedly, they are not unfounded.

External appearance

The exterior of the new Renault Zoe has received a small number of changes. In the course of the update, the manufacturer corrected the design of the front and rear bumpers, and also decorated the "face" with new-fashioned LED headlight optics.

In addition to the spectacular head optics, the front part of the model's body attracts with a relief hood, a large Renault emblem (behind it is a charger connector) and a large air intake.

The dynamic and collected profile showcases a domed roof, stylish side embossing and heavily piled A-pillars. Also, the manufacturer has provided rims with a diameter of 15-17 inches, which received a completely new design.

The stern of the small hatchback is pleasing to the eye with a compact luggage compartment door, a monumental rear bumper and LED position lights, the turn signal section of which is made in the form of a creeping line.

The height of the ground clearance, unfortunately, is not reported by the manufacturer. But it became known that the body color palette was expanded to 9 colors. New colors include Celadon Blue, Flame Red and Quartz White.

Unlike the exterior, the interior design of the electric car has gone through revolutionary changes. The manufacturer completely rethought the design of the front dashboard, which began to look more mature and modern. A stylish three-spoke multifunction steering wheel with a slightly flattened lower rim and a fully virtual 10-inch dashboard is installed in front of the driver.

Most of the central dashboard is occupied by the 9.3-inch vertically oriented touchscreen of the media information center. Directly below it is a laconic and intuitive control unit for the air conditioning system, which is controlled by means of three multifunctional rotors.

For front riders, the manufacturer has prepared comfortable seats with good lateral support and a sufficient number of adjustments. Special attention should be paid to the special synthetic upholstery of the seats made from recycled materials. A few words should be said about the small "chin" of the front dashboard, where the manufacturer installed a stylish gearshift lever, several connectors for connecting various devices and even a platform for wireless charging of gadgets.

The rear sofa is profiled for two riders, which is not surprising, because the third rider is definitely not welcome here.

The volume of the trunk is 388 liters as standard, but by folding the backs of the rear sofa, it can be increased by at least one and a half times. The manufacturer has placed a charging cable under the raised floor, so that the driver does not need to think about where to attach it more conveniently.

In general, the Renault Zoe salon is distinguished by good build quality, solid finishing materials and good ergonomics, although, of course, it is still very far from the top representatives of the German automotive school.

The second generation Renault Zoe received an improved filling, which made it possible to increase the power of the electric motors, the capacity of the batteries and the efficiency of the recuperation system.

One of two electric motors can act as a power plant:

1. 108 hp R110 series electric motor generating 225 Nm of torque. With it, acceleration from 0 to 100 is carried out in 11.4 seconds, and the maximum speed reaches 135 km / h.
2. 136-horsepower R135 unit, reproducing 245 Nm of torque, which is enough for the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 in 10 seconds. and was able to accelerate to a top speed of 140 km / h.

Since Renault Zoe is an electric car, there is no need to talk about such a parameter as fuel consumption. The electric motors are powered by a 52 kW / h lithium-ion battery, which is enough power to overcome 390 km (according to the WLTP cycle), which is 63 km more than its predecessor could drive as much as possible.

Now the car can be recharged not only through the DC system, but also through the AC current. When using a charging station with a capacity of 50 kW, in just 30 minutes, the batteries will be charged enough to cover about 150 km.

The manufacturer proudly declares that the novelty has received a proprietary driving mode "B", when activated, the driver can accelerate and decelerate the car by pressing one accelerator pedal.

The steering is represented by an electric booster, and the braking system now sports disc brakes "in a circle" (on the first generation of Renault Zoe, drum brakes were installed at the rear).

Sales of the new Renault Zoe in Europe started in October 2019. The minimum price for a car starts at 27 thousand euros, however, to this you also need to add the price for using batteries, which Renault offers on leasing terms for 49-162 euros / year.
